Kaitlyn Fischer is a seventeen year old high school graduate who plans to pursue a degree in Political Science and a career in Political Journalism. She has dealt with a number of mental illnesses throughout her life, all of which have driven her to write about her experiences and give a voice to those who need one. She has spent the last year pursuing internships and volunteer opportunities both in politics and writing, which have ranged from advocating for those with disabilities to interning with one of her State Senators.
Kaitlyn has used her talent to write poetry and other pieces for an up and coming magazine as well as other various organizations and has no plans of stopping any time soon. She has a passion for giving a voice to those who need one and helping them to gain the strength to stand up and defeat their physical and mental obstacles, regardless of what they may be.
Kaitlyn volunteers because...
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I can't stress enough how important this organization and the resources that they offer are to me. I am both honored and thrilled to be a part of that because as someone who has struggled to find both contentment and pride in who I am, I want more than anything to ensure that others do not face that same struggle alone.
I believe that if my life has only one purpose, it is to help whomever I can however I can. I want to play a role in making this world a safer and more accepting place for anyone and everyone by using my experiences and voice as a way to end stigma against both those who identify as LGBTQ+ and have been diagnosed with mental illness.
