Let the conversation begin.
Will You Pick Up the Call to Action?Have you ever seen or heard such a startling piece of data that your heart drops and you just know that today must be the day you reach out and do something? Have you ever felt driven to take action, but unsure of who to reach out to or what could be done to initiate that action? Are you ready to make a heartfelt impact? Making a positive change in someone else’s life may seem like just another thing on your to-do list. Perhaps it presents itself as a financial obligation that threatens your daily coffee indulgence or random spending sprees. Maybe you just aren’t closely associated to a specific cause. Although focusing solely on your own endeavors may seem ideal, it prohibits your ability to see suffering. It’s okay. We have all been there, in a moment where we have chosen not to take action for various personal reasons. But that was yesterday, and this is today. Today, YOU take action. Your opportunity to make changes on behalf of LGBTQIA youth in the bipolar community awaits. This population is at the highest risk of suicide. The Numbers Are Not PrettyThe fact is, we’re losing this population of amazing individuals in staggering numbers. According to the Trevor Project, suicide is the first leading cause of death in LGBT youth ages 10 to 24, with this population accounting for 30% of all youth suicide. Imagine, having barely tasted life and being racked by grief, feeling as though you have no where to turn. Here at Hope Xchange we have seen the need and we are answering the call to boldly step forth and serve the LGBTQIA youth community through mentoring, advocacy, resources, awareness and most importantly, hope. Today we welcome day 1 of 25 days dedicated to Hope Xchange’s #HOPEforLGBTQIA Campaign to raise much needed awareness around the issue of LGBTQIA youth suicide in the bipolar community and the feelings of hopelessness and despair. When you hear the term LGBTQIA, it isn’t just an acronym meant to portray a single group of individuals sharing the exact same experience. These letters represent a family of individuals, each with their own stories, struggles and triumphs. LGBTQIA stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual. Each facet deserves unending support and encouragement from people like you and me. Do Away With Stigma Around SuicideSuicide is not an easy topic to discuss, but nonetheless it is absolutely essential, as maintaining a negative stigma around it and stifling discussions does nothing to aid those suffering. Hope Xchange has continually served as a pillar for the LGBTQIA youth community. Our #HOPEforLGBTQIA Campaign aims to further aid those who are struggling through funding from individuals such as you. Whether you are someone who has lost a loved one to suicide or someone who has stood face to face with it, you are so very essential to the change needed to happen right here, right now. Walk the Walk. Be the Change.Information is a great tool, but action is key.
